Do I need a generator or would domestic electricity supply cope?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

We are having a party in the garden which includes a band plus the use of 4 x 3kw electric fan heaters.. we were going to use house electric but are worried it'll be too much and trip switch.. unsure what the maximum usage at one time is.. would it be advisable to hire a generator to help cope with the load? Thanks in advance..

Depends which circuit you are plugging them into, and as nobody knows how your house is wired can't say if it would trip or not. I wouldn't think about using extension leads either. It's an up to you sort of thing.

In theory it could be done from your Domestic Electricity supply but you would need to spreed the load across the circuits. You would be best to get a pay local Electrician to either set it up or give you advise on the matter. He or She would be able to look at your system to see if it is suitable and assess the load and how best to set it up. Thanks Kelvin

I will be very surprised if your installation would cope. Just for the fan heater will need 52A in total. On the top of this you have the band's gear plus the usual demand of the house's alliances (cooker, fridge etc). I would suggest either to run a couple of extensions from a neighbor's house to spread the load or get an electrician to create one or two temporary circuits, if possible. I want to believe will come cheaper than renting a generator.
