Hiding the gap between upvc frame and stone windows sill

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

On our 1925s house, the bay window has sunk over the years resulting in a sloping stone window sill. UPVC double glazing has been installed but because the frame had to be level we are left with a gap between the stone sill and upvc frame. This goes from next to nothing at one end to several centimetres at the other end. The gap has been filled with concrete but doesn't look good. How can we make this look better? Tile the window sill? Replace it (if that's possible without taking the windows out)? Are there better materials available to fill it and then paint over (the window sill is painted white)?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. The best advice i can give, is to search for a filler. Toupret, toupreith-f masonry repair filler. I have used it many times even on sandstone (painted). It can be used for repairs without the need for formwork, sets quickly and can be shaped, sanded very easily. Its paint retention after 24 hours will be similar to your existing stone too. Hope this helps

Hello what we would do in this case is trim from stone to window cill using a 45mm trim cut down to correct size so looks even on the cill or use edge fillet using same technique this way all gaps will filled plus have a neat and tidy looking cill, as many sealents tend to look grubby or shrink over the months or years having the trim will cover and protect. Many thanks
