Installation of extractor fans.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.30 PM

I need to install an extractor fan to my upstairs and downstairs bathrooms. My property is in a conservation area so rather than creating holes in the outside of the building I would rather do this through the glass windows if possible. I want to know whether this is an easy job to do. The glass is double glazing and I don't have the extractor parts etc.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Can't you vent them via an airbrick outside, with a appropriate sized tube for each. Not a plastic airbrick but a terracotta type? Had to do this on BC instructions in a conservation area. Got to be easier than doing it through windows etc.

You may be able to remove the double glazed units from their window frame and take them to a local glazing company to have the holes cut. There are several manufacturers of extractor fans that provide window kits for their fans. An electrical wholesaler should be able to recommend an appropriate type. If you take the window kit with you to the glazier they will ensure the hole is the right size. I have installed such an extractor fan in the past and this is what the customer had done.
