Ask a questionLoft Conversion
Changing from paddle stairs to normal stairs to loft.
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.30 PM
Hello, In our new house we have a loft conversion which my husband currently uses as his office. It currently has paddle stairs leading up to it and we would love to change these to a normal stair case so that it is easier to access. Do you know how easy this is to do? and what would be needed etc? :)
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. I have a customer who actually had the reversal of what you are looking for. Origionally the stairs to the attic conversion were traditional treads and risers but due to limited space the treads were very narrow and risers very high. I plastered and decorated the loft and the staircase as it was i'll say was a challenge to negotiate. They then had this removed and a paddle design installed (which i painted prior to carpet tiles fitted) the paddle staircase worked so much better for everyone and all remarked how safer it felt once you got used to ascending and descending it. I think the advice in the other awnser is exellent but i thought id offer my experiences of this for consideration. Thanks
