What's the best product to level an uneven concrete floor ready for large format porcelain tiles.

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

Floor (laid circa 1930) has about 20mm difference between lowest and highest point. The room next to it appears to have been leveled out decades ago (maybe 1960's) and has some kind of vinyl stuck down to it so want to take the uneven room up to this level. I want to know what is the best product to level out the floor as the washing machine shakes violently during spin cycle. Tiling might not happen for a few months as I need to save some money so I'd like something that would be usable in the meantime. Someone said latex and screed are the same thing but I'd like to know what specific products would make the best level surface for tiling.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. Check there isn't any damp in the sub - floor. If not a screed of self levelling compound as you suggest would do the trick. I find Weber the make I prefer and they have a technical helpline where your should be able to gain advice on which of their products would work best for you floor. I would however advise against screeding the floor now if as you say, it will be left for a considerable period before the tiles are laid. A screed of self levelling compound is not considered a 'wearable surface' Hope this helps
