Fitting a fan to an i-joist ceiling

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.30 PM

I'd like to fit a ceiling fan to the ceiling of my lounge. The ceiling is made of plasterboard, fitted to a resilient bar frame, which is fitted to an i-joist. Is it possible to screw direct into the i-joist with the ceiling fan? Or would it be better to hang a bracket over the bottom flange of the i-joist, making a hole in the OSB of the i-joist to accommodate the bracket? Or run a nogging between two of the i-joist bottom flanges and attach to that? Thanks for your thoughts! Thanks Mr Fix It All, that's what I've done and now enjoying a beer under said fan! I found this to be useful: http://blog.weyerhaeuser.com/supporting-exercise-equipment-with-tji-joists/

i would personally run a nogging between two of the i-joist bottom flanges and attach to that. So there is not matter of how heavy the fan is and would be more safe then just screw to the ceiling.
