Prepare internal brick wall for tiling
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.51 PM
Hello, I have recently moved into a 1930's semi, and started to redecorate the bathroom. After removing the tiles, the plaster/cement came off easily with the tiles leaving the entire wall of windows back to brick. This also includes the window wall frame. What should I do to prepare the walls for tiling? 1. Do I use bonding plaster, this I have already purchased, but not sure if this will hold tiles. 2. Cement or any other plaster. Your advice is appreciated Thanks Aj

Hi , you should get the walls plumb level by either using cement plaster only if it is a big area but bonding should do the job fine just make sure to get level walls .other option Either can put plaster boards with adhesive if you want to make it a proper job . Use raw plugs for extra strength if needed

The easiest and most cost effective way to get the wall smooth and ready for tiling would be to dot and dab plaster boards over the existing brickwork. Plenty of adhesive behind the back and the right size boards will give you an excellent surface to rule on :)

The best thing to do is to plasterboard the walls using plasterboard adhesive to stick the board. Depending on the surface you may need to pva the exposed brick work before sticking. Using plasterboard is the easiest way to get your walls plumb making it easier for tiling.
