Hanging 8/9kg mirror on plasterboard in bathroom

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.29 PM

Hi, I bought a LED mirror for bathroom. Stud wall was wired up when we refurbished five years ago. However, stud wall has just one timber running horizontally and it's too low to attach the mirror to. Mirror weighs about 8/9kg - any ideas if the plasterboard would take it's weight?! Or any ideas what else I can do to get the mirror up?? Thanks all!! Alex

Hi Alex, this can be done using GripIt plasterboard fixings - you can get an assorted box from screwfix - i have used these loads of times and they will easily take the weight of the mirror - i have placed a link underneath. http://www.screwfix.com/p/gripit-assorted-plasterboard-fixings-32-pcs/6165j karl

Hello Alex, if the plasterboard fixings fail then you could always cut a neate hole out the plasterboard so you can see both studs, screw a nogging on both of the studs about 15mm back, then screw a piece of 15mm ply wood onto the noggings so it should finish flush with the studs, then screw your bit of plasterboard you took out back into the same hole, then see a plasterer about just going over the gaps, that way you have a firm thing to screw your mirror onto for ever.
