CAT 6 Cables - Will they help with SMART TV and Internet - and how much will it cost

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.29 PM

Hi I have 4 bedrooms and a living room in my house. If I have 5 people watching on a SMART TV (via wifi) in every room and also on the internet at the same time, I would suspect my current internet would be very slow (I have Sky Fibre). Therefore will CAT 6 cables help and how would they work. Do they work just like Ethernet cables, ie, they just run from the router to the bedrooms and would I need two cables for each room, ie. one for the internet and one for the TV Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

CAT5E will support gigabit data transfer speeds, run from the swicth/router to each room, that will suffice for tv and pc, cat6 is a little more expensive

You might need a faster Internet connection. 5 smart tvs on WiFi might be fine but for streaming at same time movies might not load or go slooow

Hi Frank CAT5/CAT6 cables provide a more reliable connection to your end devices but don’t improve the overall access speed out to the internet. Should you be wanting to cable your devices up, I would strongly recommend pricing up an additional access point in other areas of the house to provide greater signal strength. Most of the SMART TV’s I install/commission don’t need CAT6 even for 4K streaming so long as the signal is sufficient.
