Water supply to downstairs kithen tap only works when bathroom tap is turned on upstairs ???

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.11 PM

I have an unusual plumbing dilemma that you may have some thoughts on... The water downstairs has stopped working (completely*). The tap has been checked and its not the tap and the stop cock tap has also been checked. Funny thing is, when the water tap upstairs is turned on.. water comes out of the downstairs tap. Turns out there is another stop tap under the floor and it was fitted the wrong way round (its worked for years the wrong way round!! Thought it may have been an airlock but no, the tap connecting the alkathene pipe with the copper was the wrong way round. Property is terraced 1900s property in Blackpool Many thanks Pam

i take it you refer to hot on kitchen sink ?, if so this is an airlock or partial blockage to service to hot water cylinder, you can try to force airlock out by using kitchen sink cold tap connected to hot by a piece of hose open both taps for a minute or two then close both taps leave for a short while the open hot to see if it is ok,if it is a partial blockage due to scale in hot water tank you will need to get a plumber to look at it.
