Ask a questionBricklaying & Repointing
Imperial metric brick aliniament.

The bricklayer laid 17 course of external leaf metric bricks not vertically aligned to the existing house imperial bricks (67/68mm high). Neighbouring exact copy of our house have been extended, between 4 and 10 years ago, all have aligned existing imperial and new metric brickwork, and mortar join looks good. I would like the new wall rebuilt due to poor quality along with the misalignment. Few lateral join are 25mm on one side of the brick and 10mm on the other side, many other lateral join are between 15 to 20mm wide. Pointing look terrible and from the inside of the leaf, is visible there is no enough mortar between bricks (some gap are 90mm deep)., Also BC agree the wall does not look like it has been professionally built. The bricklayer insisted he did a good job and aligning is not possible due to the imperial/metric difference, talking about insulation installation problem without specifying what problem it is. I would appreciate any comments or advice.
