oak veneer or primed white doors
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.51 PM
Hi I am having new doors put up in my whole house and I want to paint all the doors and skirting white. However I am unsure whether I should have oak veneer doors which will have to be primed and painted or if I should just get primed white doors. I have had mixed opinions from joiners so I am left confused! Thanks

Hi
Buying oak veneered doors and painting them is a huge waste of money. They are great if you want the effect of solid oak joinery without the huge expense. But you will get a better paint finish on primed doors that are designed to be painted. Veneer is only really designed to take waxes, stains and oils. Apply a heavy paint job and you risk the veneer peeling away.
Hope this helps

As said by Aaron above, people buy oak veneered doors because they like the oak effect. If you were to buy oak veneered doors and paint them you would be wasting a lot of money and would end up with a finish not nearly as good as painting pre-primed doors.
I hope this answers your question.
Cory.
