Do I need planning permission to brick up a exterior door in garden?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

Hi, my house has built in 1920s, has a ground floor toilet that only accessable from garden. my idea is to knock down an interior (non weight bearing 90cm x 250cm) wall, so I can access it from inside my house. At same time brick up the existing exterior door (70cm x 185cm) which we use to access that toilet at moment. I am kind of sure that I don't need planning permission to knock down the internal wall which is not weight bearing, but I want to ask if I need planning permission to brick up the old toilet exterior door. Will I have any issues when it comes to sell the property if I don't have a PP?

In my opinion you need planning permission. You don't need planning permission only if you replace the existing with a new similar door. Why don't you replace the existing door with a new glazed door or a window? It will allow for direct natural light to the bathroom adding value to the property.

Unless your property is in conservation area you not need to apply for any planning approvals to carry out your proposed work.
