Snap, crackle and pop noise - Does it go away?!

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.10 PM

I recently had 35m2 of engineered flooring installed as part of my flat refurb.14mm thick (inc 3mm lamella) T&G system and 5mm sonic gold underlay with DPM was used over a concrete subfloor. It was installed floating and an expansion gap was left. It's now been about one month since the install was finished and there is the dreaded snap, crackle and pop noise as you walk over the flooring. In some areas it is much louder than others, but it's pretty much all throughout. The builder didn't use glue to fix the boards together; could this be a reason I'm hearing the noises? I've heard it can take up to one year / four seasons for the floor to fully settle, but I'm not really liking the noises I'm hearing. Is some initial noise expected after engineered wood is installed and then it subsides; or does this sound like a dodgy install and/or defective product? Thanks.

This is the incorrect way to install a t&g floor, if you're installing to wooden sub-floor it must be boarded out first then secret nailed down, and if it's on concrete you require a liquid dpm/screed sandwich then full adhere the flooring to the sub-floor. also you say he didnt use glue to fix the boards together ??? how on earth did he fit it then, a builder is not qualified or trained to install real wood flooring correctly. this needs taking up and refitting correctly.
