Measuring an opening for wooden french doors
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.10 PM
Hi, we are wanting to have an opening cut below an existing window and install timber French doors. We have a builder who will cut the opening and he has a carpenter who will fit. We want to order bespoke doors and frame but am unsure how to measure accurately. Can someone advise? Thanks

Hi if you are having bespoke doors made get the the person makeing them to take the dimensions for you
If you do it and thay are rong you will be have ill fitting doors
And could cost you even more to put it right

Your builder should advise you of the opening size he intends to leave. The carpenter can plane the frame to size if they are tight or wedge and pack out if a little loose so there is a little bit of flexibility even if the frame and doors arrive marginally the wrong size. Hope this is helpful and the project runs smoothly.
