Move Electric Fuse Board (Electric and Solar) from Kitchen Corner bottom
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.51 PM
Hi, I am buying a house with solar panel installed so fuse board is complicated and there are multiple fuse boards (original, solar), but it is located in the base corner unit in kitchen, which makes that area totally unusable and very difficult to access. Is it possible to move it to some other location? How complicated things like this can be and how long it will take to do the job. Do we need any planning permission to do this job? Are there any risks? Thanks in advance for your answers.

The fuse board must only be moved by an electrician or in some cases by the electricity company.
It is totally illegal to do it unless you are a qualified electrician!
Your best bet is to find a local sparky to come and advise you about the best alternatives you have for your situation.

Yes, it is possible to move but without surveying the job it's difficult to predict how long the work would take, it depends on the number of circuits, distance to be moved & cable routes, etc. The work you require doesn't need planning permission but it is Notifiable Work under the Building Regulations so you do need to use a Part P Registered Electrician to get your Installation Certificate.
If the supplies are also from Solar PV Sources it may be worth hiring a contractor who deals with Solar PV Installations.

As above I think your best option is to find a local electrician to advise you on a price/time and then weigh up your options.
