wiring for oven terminal block

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.29 PM

hi there, I have a new beko oven I've noticed the terminal block is quite different to the one on the oven it is replacing. Please see the picture of it + wiring diagram here: http://i.imgur.com/bmj9hOb.png or http://imgur.com/bmj9hOb Its basically just three screw holes with screws in them. For each L,N,E Is it expected to strip the wire very thin, say 1/2/3 threads each?, insert these into relevant hole and screw in on top? Wouldn't the wire overheat/break from the high resistance (oven is 2.3kw) or from the action of screwing on top? Is this standard installation procedure? Do you maybe wind the wire around each screw, and then tighten? I've noticed this same terminal block is found on quite a few different models of beko, and one belling. Is there something I dont know about? Should I return the oven? Thanks in advance

There's nothing wrong with wrapping the wire round if you can fit all the strands in, but you would be guaranteed a good mechanical connection if you were to terminate each of the three conductors with an insulated ring terminal: http://www.screwfix.com/p/insulated-crimp-blue-ring-5mm-pack-of-100/24964 http://www.screwfix.com/p/insulated-crimp-yellow-5mm-pack-of-100/43108

The manufacturer generally will have allowed sufficient room in it's fittings for suitable cable. Do not trim cable threads. As you are unsure please have a qualified electrician to have a look as it may be a case of different cable being required.
