Covered air vent over top of capped chimney
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.10 PM
If we remove a chimney to roof level and cover it with dry pack, do we need to worry about ventilation or damp problems? We have a chimney breast in the loft but otherwise no chimney works inside the house. Is a covered air vent over the top of the capped chimney a good idea?

When a chimney becomes completely redundant it therefore becomes a void that serves no apparent
purpose, if you undertake the work correctly preventing any water or moist air ingress damp cannot occur and you have created a partially sealed void from the elements.
