New Kitchen needed - Which order should we get jobs done in?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

Hi Me and my partner have just purchased a new property and would like to have new kitchen put in. We would need to re-decorate the whole room as well as having the new units and flooring fitted as it all looks a bit unloved! Our main issue is that the feature wall of the room appears to have been lining papered and painted, and there are various bumps on show, which I am assuming is where the previous owners have attempted to patch plaster the wall prior to putting the paper up. If this is the case, is it likely that the rest on the kitchen will also have issues with the plastering and if we do need to get the room re-plastered, at what stage are we best getting this done at? My thinking is that the best course of action would be to remove the old units, remove the wallpaper from all walls, have someone come in to re-plaster, decorate and then have the new units and flooring fitted, but my thinking on such matters probably doesn't account to much! Was hoping that someone can either confirm this is the best way of going about the job or suggsest otherwise? Appreciate that this is a bit of a ramble but would be greatful for any advice. Thanks in advance. Jason

If it was me and my house the walls needed plastering before I put in the kitchen I would get it done because the walls be nice and smooth and freshly done when you put skirting boards in then you can put the floor down so you have all the walls are smooth and fresh and clean that is the best way to do it I Tink

You should first carefully plan your kitchen. Go to any kitchen supplier and they will make you drawing and plans of your kitchen. Then you should first sort out your electrics, water supply and drainage then you should plaster the walls. Very often see people plaster the walls then it come out that they have socket less than 1' from the cooker and that does not comply with regs and it has to be moved away from the cooker. Or you need additional socket for cooker hood etc. After you sort our that you can pain part of the walls which wouldn't be tiled, install the kitchen units, do the backsplash or tiles and install the flooring.
