Using Dulux Trade High Gloss

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.10 PM

Hi Graham, thanks for your advice on using tiles instead. In the meantime, I have been asked to use the Dulux Trade High Gloss (the one that is suitable for wood and metal). Given this, and it will actually have to go on top of the existing eggshell coat, should I use an undercoat first?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Pete, I would personally recommend just a light sand down would be enough for the gloss the stick to, and to give you a perfect finish just sand down any lumps and bumps from the previous eggshell coat. That should be then fine to paint on top of no problem. Undercoat is only really needed on bare wood as new wood it will suck in all the shine/ oils from the paint and give you a dull finish, the eggshell will be your undercoat as such so should go on perfectly. hi, and yes you should use an undercoat, but for what it is just a tiny job, wash with soap and sand down apply the gloss, job done.

Dulux trade gloss is self-undercoating so there is not need to apply undercoat. You have to sand and then apply 2 coats of gloss
