Tile flooring on suspended floors vs screed floor

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

Hi i have suspended flooring in my house on Ground floor and rear exentded part is concrete floor. I am planning to get porcelain tile flooring to be instaled on ground floor and would like to ask whether it would be feasible to install it on partially concrete and partially suspended floor system as the substrate will have diffrential movement and thermal expansion. Would it be better to remove the entire suspended floor and do screeding to get the same level for all ground floor and install water based under floor heating and tile flooring on top. Looking for recommended installation spec and tips.

In my experience it would be best to use a marine grade ply or cement board for stopping heat loss if using electric under floor heating on existing floating floor with fixings approx every 150mm. Then use a leveling compound to bring concrete floor up to level of the marine ply. As you have stated porcelain all adhesives and grouts would need to be flexible even on concrete area as porcelain has a low porosity and normal floor adhesive will not adhere properly. Hope this helps. Ian
