Install Chimney Cooker Hood

HI I've just had a new kitchen fitted by my housing association. I had a built in extractor fan with my old kitchen which was vented onto an outside wall. They have left the venting open for me and they have also put a socket on the wall as they said I can replace with my own cooker hood, but I would have to get it installed. I therefore purchased one online only to be told by the kitchen fitter that the vent is slightly to far to the left of where it should be. I therefore need advice with regards if there is anyway of using the existing vent or if I just have to use it as a recirculating with filters. Also as I need the cooker hood installing would this be an electricians job or would it be done by another trades person.

Dear owner, You can only use recirculating extractor fan if in your kitchen there is no gas appliances. If you have gas hoob then you need extractor hood that extracts outside via vent. Its hard to say options it all depends how far of the existing vent is, you might need to re drill new hole and do a bit of diy. Usually electrician fits it but as you got existing power point even kitchen fitter would fit it. Kind regards Paul

hello . yes you can still use the existing ventilation on the outside wall it just means you may be able to see the vent ducting. You could cover the ducting by boxing it in or use some sort of cover. An electrician isn't needed if the cooker hood is on a plug. But will need to be installed by a qualified electrician if it has to be hard wired. Most cooker hoods nowadays are normally on a plug :)
