the corner pipe from house to drain broke

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.10 PM

Where my waste water (bathroom and toilet) pipe goes into the ground is fine but the connection pipe to the drain under my yard is broken, So all waste water is leaking into the soil under my yard by my back wall. I need to know if I can fix myself or do I need a professional.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sorry to hear about your predicament, not a pleasant experience! While technically replacing a waste pipe yourself is fine, its some digging and then removing the broken bit and installing a new bit - its a lot easier said than done - there are ways of repairing drains without digging a hole by 'collaring' the inside which is often cheaper and quicker and easier. These guys explain it a lot better than I can: https://www.expressdrainagesolutions.co.uk/advice-centre/fixing-drain-problems/cracked-drainage-pipe-solutions/ If you've had a CCTV survey of the drain and you know what you're in for and there's nothing of note above the drains you could look to do it yourself but my advice would be to bring in the professionals. Kind Regards, Charles

Hello Mending a broken pipe is not for the faint hearted, but if you want to have a go you can't do any more damage to the pipe anyway, Excavate down and uncover the pipe where the crack or broken piece is, expose about 600mm (2') that section as to be cut out with a diamond quick cut saw, Make a note of the type of pipe you have taken out or take it to your local builder merchant and buy a length of 100mm plastic pipe with 2 No Bandseals (Flexible rubber collars with jubilee clips on) these come in all different sizes, the band seal needs to be adaptable to the plastic pipe you have just purchased an the pipe you have taken with you Not easy for the layman, but thats how we do them Regards Peter Rowan Groundworks Ltd
