Converting garage to music studio

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

My husband is a very enthusiastic musician and we are hoping to convert our garage into a studio for him. It is a standard size single garage with a flat roof, currently there is an up and over door to the outside and an internal door to the utility room at the other end. It currently has a single skin brick wall - will it need to be converted to double skin? Also will it need to have footings and a DPC? We are thinking of adding a sloping roof, bricking up the existing up and over door and adding a radiator as well as soundproofing and additional electric points. Is there anything else we should be aware of? Would we need to apply for building regs before choosing a builder? Many thanks in advance.

You will need building regulations and a set of plans from an architectural designer. Planning permission is not required. Your builder can provide all this information and design the garage into a music room with the relevant sound proofing needed. Trust this will help you with your inquiries.
