Central Heating

No gas in my Village

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

Hi, I wanted to ask your advice what kind of heating system I could get. I currently have old E7 Storage heaters but they cost me a lot to run and the heat disappears by the evening as they are scorching hot during the day. We have looked at alternative heating for cheaper cost as I live in a Village with no Gas and I have considered LPG for about £5000 installation cost but Calor stated that they would need to install a tank in the center of our garden which would show a giant manhole where the tank would be so this is not a good option as I have a small garden for my son to play in. I then looked at oil but the cost was £8500 to install which is very expensive. I have also spoken to Fischer for their electric ceramic clay heaters which they stated the heating can store the heat for longer than standard radiators thus saving us money but I was quoted £1500 - 2500 per Radiator which is again too expensive. another company which sell Aeroflow radiators from Electrorad are selling similar heaters for a lot cheaper around £450 - £500 per radiator but I don't know if these are any efficient at reducing heating bills which they all claim as I cant find anyone legitimate who can honestly say they have saved money per year? Should I take the plunge on one of these or look into under flooring heating maybe? Thank’s in advance, Baz

Hi I too live in a village where there is no mains gas and still 95% of the houses still have the original economy 7 heaters in place. Recommend you re-consider the oil boiler option. Grant who manufacture oil boilers have a model that has a 10 year warranty T&C's apply Your £5k estimate is very competitive if that includes the radiator's and all associated pipework too!

Hi have you considered renewable energy such as solar panels on roof or air source heat pumps they are brilliant and providing set up correctly almost cost nothing to run 👍

Hi, I would definitely consider Air source heat pumps, they are very efficient and once setup need never touching again, but be advised they do require a well insulated property to get the most out of them. Failing that your best option is oil, modern boilers are pretty efficient, only downside is the oil tank in the garden. James

Calor will fit a LPG tank for free but you will have a contract for 2 years but LPG is Quite expensive,Oil will be more expensive to set up but cheaper to run. Other options are Solar and Air source and go off grid
