Plastering & Rendering

Replacing damp plasterboard from around window.

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

Long story short my gutters was leaking into a air vent then travelling through my wall and coming out by window. The vent and gutter and now sorted but what sort of damage would it have caused and how much will it be to fix it. There is water marks on bubbling on the horizontal plaster above window and on the inner of the plasterboard around the window. As far as I can see that's about all the damage. So would it be a case of taking the old board off and fixing new or would it have caused a few other problems. The window is about 2ft from the vent but the vent doesn't come into the room that has been plastered over is this a good or bad thing.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Without actually seeing the job it is hard to judge what damage has been done. The marks will dry out now the leak is fixed and you should be able to see the extent of the damage. Worse case scenario is to take down the old damaged reveals and just dab some new Plasterboard on and skim. Bear in mind that you will have metal edging around the reveal which will also probably need replacing when hacking off the old plasterboard. Personally I would scrape off the bubbles leave to dry out and it will probably be okay with a bit of easyfill and paint. Hope that helps
