Painting a newly plastered kitchen ceiling

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

Have had my kitchen ceiling plastered and painted it not realising that I should have watered the paint down for 1st coat I thereafter applied another coat of paint but it still looks patchy in part. Would it be alright to paint again with watered down emulsion at this late stage to get a more even finish

A freshly plastered surface will normally take 3 or 4 coats. As for the mist coat? I don't think the sky will fall on your head

I suggest to paint another coat. May need up to four to get patch free.

An extra few coats should sort this problem for you. No need to water down the paint as your first few coats You have applied would act as a sealer. make sure you allow enough dry time between your last two coats. Hope this helps.

There is no point at all in applying a watered down coat now - that should have been done first to give you a bond for main coats. Another good coat might sort out your patchy ceiling but there is a chance the paint is going to start flaking off at some point in the future. When that happens you will need to try and scrape it all off and start again.
