tin/steel metal garage

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

had a small accident and the hit the garage door. Part of the metal has caved in slightly. Is there a cost effective way to fix it back to its normal shape, so it is pleasing to the eye? Without buying a new garage door which will set back another couple hundred quid.....

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Depending on the damage and how tough the metal is, you can likely beat out the dent. I'd begin by laying the door flat and hitting it as forcefully as required with a rubber mallet or a steel hammer. I often use a block of wood to spread the force. When you're done with that, check the door is not 'in wind'. That is, it should lay flat on a flat surface, as opposed to twisted. Key is to go gently with those hammer blows but don't be shy about really bashing it if it needs it. Good luck!
