Damp Proofing

Who can check my cellar to find out what the bad smell is?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

There is a bad smell in my cellar (unused, about chest height) which is particularly noticeable if we bend down to floor level on our ground floor. I don't know if it is damp, pests, dry rot, leaking pipes etc and ideally don't want to pay 5 different specialists to come round and rule out each thing one at a time. Who would be able to check it out and establish what is the cause? Most basement service companies are normally checking pumps and drainage of fully converted basements so maybe not ideal here. Thankyou

Hi there, the main cause of a bad smell in a cellar would usually be from damp and the cellar is under ground level, so very easy for damp to appear, it would be an idea to get a company out that deals with damp and check the moisture levels in the cellar. Do you have any ventilation in there too? As this would be advantageous to help with the smell. Kind regards Carl
