Relaying creaking and popping wooden floor on concrete

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

I live in a 1960's flat and when I moved in 4 years ago I discovered solid wood floors under the carpet; so I removed the carpet and polished the floor. The wood floor is directly on concrete, I cannot see any nails and the floor boards do not lock together. I number of them have started to squeak and pop; I am wondering what my options are to stop this. I have looked at products that involve drilling through the floor and injecting glue but I am unsure whether this is suitable for half a room. Is it possible to relay the floor and keep the original boards intact? If so - is it possible to put soundproofing under the boards ? Many thanks

hi jjholloway sounds like the previous adhesive has deteriorated if you can get the flooring lifted without damage you could lay 18 mm sterling board glued and hammer fixed to the concrete then relay your flooring gluing and nailing the boards there is also an underlay you can use this is glued to the concrete and the flooring is glued on to that

The previous information you were given is not advisable, you will need to uplift the whole floor, mechanically remove the adhesive from the wood and sub floor then use a surface dpm/screed "sandwich" before reinstalling the floor with a suitable adhesive, there are no shortcuts to installing a solid wood and it must always be done the correct way.
