Best way to fit 38mm solid maple flooring to concrete

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

I would really like some advice with what to do regarding this flooring so any help is very very appreciated. I went on a whim and bought some maple 38mm solid floor boards for my house. These came from a popular auction site which had been tAken out of an old factory. These boards have a tongue and groove to them but not on the ends as theyve been chop sawed at the ends. Because the boards are very old having come out of a factory theyre not straight to say the least..they may have even bowed a bit of where they have been stored..my garage. Stupid thing to do I know. So as for fitting them I dont think putting them down with adhesive wont work as if you walk on one end the other side jumps up. The floor I have is concrete which has been levelled out with latex self leveller. From reading on here could i lay some chipboard down first then nail the boards in? Or can anyone else help me decide what to do with it? Or shall I just burn it?! Thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You will need to build a floating floor allowing gaps for expansion. Very simple, lay battens on top of a membrane and nail through the tounge with a flooring nailer or air gun. Woe betide trying to fix directly to concrete. BIG PROBLEMS.

Wood bows due to humidity and moisture content, if the boards are as bad as you say they are ruined and should not be installed under any circumstances.
