Who do I hire to build an outside toilet?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

There is a spare port on an inspection chamber that was installed when my extension was built about 5 years ago. I'm not sure who I should be speaking to about connecting a toilet to it though. I'd want to site the toilet about 5m away from the chamber, and build a small (wood or brick) building to house toilet, shower and a small kitchen. How it looks is going to be critical in keeping the wife happy. I could ask a builder, or I could ask one of those companies doing garden offices. I really want someone who's going to know their stuff inside out and do a quality job for me, e.g. a contractor who is doing inspection chambers day-in day-out so there are no screw-ups, but don't know where to find such people. My I.C. is part of the public sewer, i.e. next door's waste flows through it, so I presume it'd all have to conform to BC/water board standards. Hoping for some advice about how to get this project off the ground. Cheers!

Building Control would likely want a say in how you tap an extra line into the sewer. The reason being is that the work has the potential to adversely affect peoples' health if it's improperly done. As for the new build, Planning Permission and/or Building Control may also need to be involved. It's simple to call Council anonymously and ask a few questions of the Planning Department. Be detailed with your proposed plans, emphasising 'proposed'.

Hi A builder or a company should be able to help as long as they done this before. You should be able to connect a 100mm pipe to your existing chamber without notification anybody. But if you build an outside toilet and kitchen you may need to apply for planing. Regarding the way to build you can look to different builders accounts on this site and if you inspect they're picture of previous work you may get some inspiration. Hope this helps Regards
