Does plaster smell?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

Hi, my building opened up a ten foot gash in my bedroom wall to get at a clogged pipe and now is having a plasterer come in next week to close it up. My question is will there be an odor from this work, and if so how strong and for how long. Also how long should I wait before painting? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hard wall coating can have a feint sulphurous smell, not too strong and mostly when it's wet. The finishing plaster is pretty much odourless, save a slight dusty smell. There is nothing overbearing, or headache-inducing about any of it.

Some of the backing coats we use do leave a smell, hardwall is the one that is the worst. Can leave an egg like smell while drying. But the top coats doesn't smell.
