Replacing floor boards

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.28 PM

Just moved into our new home and are not to happy with the floor boards upstairs. From the landing into the bedrooms they creak and sometimes bang almost like they are very loose under the carpets. Would this be an expensive job to have done and what would the time frame be? Looking at landing plus 3 average size bedrooms and a box room. Cautious ro do it ourselves at the risk of damaging any underlying pipes. Also, the door frames and skirting boards are quite aged and I would want these removing and replacing. Would this cause any structral damage when removing door frames. Again would be looking for joiner to complete this job. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Regarding your floorboards, it really requires an closer inspection, some of them might require full replacement, but most of the time you would require use appropriate fixings to secure them back to floor joists. I do support your concerns about services under the floor, I strongly wouldn't advise to undertake this yourself, prior any jobs you have to check for any type of services what might be in this area, damaging any of them might lead to serious damage to your property and lead to serious amount of costs. Skirting and door linings are fairly standard procedure what we undertake very often as part of property renovation. There is no structural damage involved if this type of project is undertaken with right equipment and skilled person. In worst case it could cause small amount of filling, but the key is skills and right equipment. I hope that helps Martin Mc Maintenance and Improvements LTD

The floor boards creaking is most likely to be caused by damage made by plumbers when taking the floor up to lay pipe work this will be self explanatory when you lift the carpets.oThe door frames would depend on the age of the property as in early days the walls would have been lath and plaster and vertuly impossible not to cause damage to walls. But if stud and plaster boards quite an easy task for some one who knows what they are doing. Hope this helps. Stan Timberline Joinery.
