Electrical

Seperate connections for hob and oven

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.15 PM

Do we need to have seperate hard wired in connections for our electric hob and electric oven or can one connection serve them both. We will also have an electric hood but that has a plug. Also if we want a rising plug box in the work top does that have to be hard wired as well?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

My advice would be to call registered electricians to give you some quotes. Really need to see the job rather than guess.

Take a look at the manufacturer’s instructions for the hob and cooker should tell you the rating and minimum cable size recommended. Get an electrician in to verify the existing cable size and breaker to see if either needs upgrading or the existing setup will suffice.

The hob and oven can be run from one 6mm supply as long as the combined wattage is under 15000 watts 15 kWatts with 30/32amp protection. The actual connections are normally separate the oven could be plugged into a socket fed from the cooker isolator and the hob wired into a outlet connected to the same isolator. The pop up counter socket is a glorified extension and comes with a 13amp plug attached. As ever both should be connected by an electrician who can give you best advice on site. Hope this helps.
