Electrian installed fusebox and has not given me a certificate. To whom should I report him to?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

I got a registered NICEIC engineer to replace the fusebox and sockets around the house. When he left he said he will send me the certificate by post. He kept saying, I have been busy and will get it done, etc. It's been nearly three months and I still haven't recieved this. He is now avoiding my calls and messages for the past two weeks, so I assume he still has not submitted the job I would like to know who I should go to to report him? NICEIC? What would they do to ensure that this certificate gets sent? Could I seek legal advice? Is it illegal to do this major work and not supply a Part P certificate?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi The best will be to contact NICEIC and explain the situation, then if he still doesn't do it, they will have to send someone else to finish the job for free. See here for more details: https://www.niceic.com/find-a-contractor/help-and-advice/contractors-and-the-niceic/what-is-the-platinum-promise. Regarding the legality of this, it's not exactly straight forward. There is no law in place that says 'you need certificate'. The law says you need to comply with BS7671 (which require certification), a non statutory document that could be use against you in the court of law. The think is, if something happens, they will come after you and not the electrician that didn't certify. I'd suggest to send him a message saying that if you haven't receive the certificate within xx days you going to contact NICEIC. Seeking legal advice would be a waste of money in my opinion as you will get pretty much the same response. Hope this helps George Eru Electrics ltd

Did you ensure he was registered with a part p provider before you gave him the job? My suspicion is that he is not registered have you had your compliance certificate from Building Control? Which he should have done also. Believe it or not it's the customers responsibity to ensure he is part p etc BEFORE he starts.
