Repair on large hole on internal plasterboard?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

I have a 13cm x 5.5cm hole in my wall. The original plastering on the board is very thick, more than the thickness of the plasterboard. The wall is lined with lining paper and painted. What is the best way to repair the hole? I have the existing cut out hole in 2 sections but I don't know if I am better using a new piece to screw in then plaster over to same thickness??? What kind of plaster?

Use a saw to enlarge the hole to the studwork (timber joist) either side. Using Stanley knife cut to centre of stud.Put on elastoplast. Fix new plasterboard. Apply scrim. Bring level with bonding coat. Using thistle multi finish skim to original. Spend four hours trying to clean. Unblock the sink. Throw away bucket. Throw away approx 95 percent of plaster (highly perishable) allow 2 days to dry then Make good with polyfiller, allow to dry then sand, apply more polyfiller, more sanding. The following weekend put up lining paper then paint, wonder why the paper is bubbling up, panic. Or pay a plasterer for 20 mins work plus the amount of time it takes the plaster to dry and of course a reasonable overhead. I would suggest half a day.
