Ronseal fence paint on decking?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.28 PM

Ive heard mixed answers to looking to clarify. Does anyone know if its ok to use ronseal fence paint to use on the decking? Look like similar substances, both go on wood, but I dont want to screw up my decking.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Fence paint on decking is a no no..it isn’t durable enough for Timber designed for traffic. It is designed for Timber that isn’t designed for walking on I.e fence panels and posts. It can easily wear off and also stain the bottom of your footwear that can lead to walking it through the house, I know this from a previous customer that had used the fence paint before and caused damage to the carpet and it was explained to them from ronseal customer service it can not be used on decking

I wouldn't suggest to use ronseal at all. Even the decking oil is based on silicone and does't penetrate the wood just sit on top. its just a matter of time when it'll peal off of your decking and you'll end up with more hassle than you can imagine. Wood have its natural color and shouldn't be stained at all. If you're in need of different color use composite boards. Otherwise use Osmo or Sadolin oil.

Do not use any form of fence paint or stain on your decking. It will not be as hard wearing/durable as a decking oil. Decking oil will protect against drying & splitting, water penetration & reduce the risk or warping & swelling to your decking.

Ronseal do a decking oil. I would opt out of using fence paint, oil is way more durable. Hope This helps
