Bathroom extractor fan- timer or switch?

What is the best? A separate switch for the fan or a timer linked to the light switch? Pros and cons of each?

Your best option is a humidistat. It only switches on when needed.

The fan linked to the light to work in conjunction with the switch via an isolator. This offers the greatest flexibility should you choose any of the fans available: timer, pull chord, humidistat. Having a sensor is good, it removes interaction and there would be less mechanical failure of the pull cord. However, there is a timer on the PIR and then a second timer on the fan, so set them both to 2 mins and you will actually have a 4 min overrun Ben
