On my boiler, should I leave the tap of the entering and exiting pipes open or closed?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

Below my boiler, there are pipes that let the water in and out of the boiler. I would like to know if I should leave the "taps" on the entering and exiting pipes open or closed? I don't know if I describe the taps properly. When my boiler looses pressure, this is the"tap" that I open in order to fill the boiler and increase the pressure. My boiler kept losing pressure on a regular basis and I had to always refill it. Now it is open all the time and I don't lose the pressure anymore but I am wondering if that's the proper way to do it. Thank you for your help

if you want system to work then yes ,as long as its not the filling loop, which should not be connected until you need to fill central heating system,on most boilers this is a silver hose with 2 valves on it .there is a fault with your boiler may be your prv on boiler or a leak in system but you must get it looked at as soon as possible this is your filling loop and it should be closed except when topping up pressure.

Hi,open it is recommended unless you will travel for longer period but even then, main water supply should be the one you need to switch off.
