Radiator Hot at the TOP and cold at the BOTTOM

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

CH/Plumbing question no.2: Yes, Hot at the TOP and cold at the BOTTOM. If it was the other way round I know it would be trapped air and need bleeding. I have had the rad removed and flushed so there is no sludge in it. My guess is that it has something to do with the way it is plumbed in; it's in a downstairs room, (former) outside wall and the flow enters via a TRV at the top left and the return leaves at the bottom left of the rad. Within 100mm the pipework has been spurred off to serve another rad through the outside wall into what is now a conservatory. The other rad in the conservatory works fine, as do all the others in the house. Any ideas?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

did you check trv and lock shield valves were not blocked,it could also be that where the other rad joins the combined flow and return pipe work ,the return can cause a back pressure in in pipe returning from other rad stopping its return working properly, years ago we used to use swept tees to overcome this, you may be able to overcome this by balancing the radiators.as your existing rad was put in old system way bottom top opposed services which improves rad output your trv may be old type one way flow through it,your new rad trv is proberley bi flow, when new rad was put in flow and return to existing rad may have been crossed.
