Hairline cracks in new cement pointing

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

I've just had a York stone patio laid and now the pointing is almost dried I've noticed that there are some hairline cracks mostly between the flag and the cement pointing. I'm guessing over time this will get worse? Should the joints that have cracks be raked out and Repointed and far down does the cement need to be removed? Note the joints are quite wide probably at 3cm wide in some areas so how far deep/down does it need to be raked out? Thanks in advance

Hi there You will have to rake out where it is cracking is at about 5mm-10mm roughly just so you are putting a decent amount of cement back. Hope this is helpful

Try using a lime based mortar in-between your York stone slabs. NHL. 5.0. Should do it. Cement and stone don't mix well.
