Hum/buzz from shaver sockets
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.09 PM
Hi, We just had a new bathroom installed, including two shaver sockets. One directly replaced an existing shaver socket, except placed it within a cupboard. This one has a constant low hum or buzz which doesn't change whether something is plugged in or not. The second was created new using a supply from an existing nearby light switch. This one buzzes slightly more loudly than the other, but only when something is plugged in. Do these buzzing noises suggest that something might be wrong or dangerous about these new sockets? Thanks, Isobel

There is a step down transformer in these shaver sockets, this could be the reason for the buzzing noise, but I personally have never heard of one doing this. Can't you get the electrician back to have a look who installed them? Assuming an electrician did?

Sounds like a slack connection or normal transformer function however you may find, as its been installed in the unit its echoing the vibration , I would assume that the bathroom fitters done the electrical work which majority of them do, may need to relocate or re-terminate and or buy a better shaver point to solve this issue.
