Is plasterboarding the parting wall with next door sound proof. ?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.28 PM

I moved in to an council property. When I stip't the paper off the whole off the house was full off cracks an inspector came an said the plaster had gone An it all need taking back to the brick. They did the work by hammering all plaster off an replaced with plasterboard an skimed over it now next door is complaining about noise I can hear him snoring at nite the walls seem very thin. I was wondering if this could be due to them just plasterbording over the brick. ??

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes it will not be the same as the existing plaster, you contractor should have used an insulated plasterboard or used sand and cement render with a skim coat of plaster, it is clear that there was not any noise prior to the works being done. It is totally down to the use of plasterboard applied by dot and dab system. No. Plasterboarding over anything other than studwork in a restoration is unacceptable. It has the structural integrity of wallpaper and should be treated as such.
