Bathroom Fitting

Fill gap between bath and tile

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

Recently had my bathroom tiled. The builders filled up the gap(around 10-15mm) on one side of the bath with grout and put silicone on top of it. I asked them if it would be fine and will it leak, I was told to be sure that it won't. Surprise of surprises, it has started leaking, but no major damage. I asked them to come and fix it, but no response on their phones, seems the builder has changed his number. Good that I had withheld some of his money, but it seems he isn't bothered. I wanted to use this (https://www.showersealsdirect.co.uk/sealux-reg-20-shower-kit.html) to fill up the gap and seal it. Is it advisable to do it myself, it seems quite easy to do it ? Or should I get a professional ? The walls are all tiled now on all side of the bath and I would need to scrap off the grout and install the sealux thing.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Personally it sounds like the bath probably hasn't been fitted correctly so its flexing and the grout has cracked. I don't grout upto baths myself, only use decent silicone. To be honest get someone in to do it, trimming and sealing around a bath is easy to make a dogs dinner of it. And I wouldn't bother with the kit, too pricey as you can pick up a plastic trim ideal for your needs and the silicone for easily less than half the price.

you should remove the old sealant fill the bath with water then reseal with fresh sealant leave it to cure then empty water from bath this way the sealant won't crack when u next have a bath
