Electrical
New electrics and sign off but faulty plug
Anonymous user 15 March 2024 - 2.34 PM
Hi,
We have had new electrics installed and got an electrical certificate to say it's all safe/legit. But today I switched a socket off that my laptop was connected to and it's still charging - I can switch the socket off but the electrics are still on.
Would an electrician be able to sign this off if this was the case? Is it a common fault or should I worry that the electrician hasn't completed the work safely?
Thanks,
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Faulty socket outlet. Just get the person back to swap it for a new one, if this socket was part of what you had done? If not just get the outlet changed anyway.
Just unfortunate the socket outlet is faulty in my opinion. If your electrician has tested and certified his installation he's proved continuity of earth throughout, correct polarity and insulation resistance therefore ensuring the install is safe/legit.
Regards
The electrician could have/should have checked this with a plug in tester after he turned the power on to it, and this would have told him power was still on even when switched off. But in saying that he socket could have gone wrong after installation. Any decent electrician will come back and replace the socket regardless.
