Carpets, Lino & Flooring

Not sure if lino tiles will have to be removed & how long for screed to dry

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

I am intending to have the hall flooring changed to vinyl tiling, either glue down or click, possibly Karndean. I currently have a carpet laid over square lino tiles. I have attempted to remove the carpet but the grippers have been stuck down and the lino tiles break when the grippers are prised up. My question is would all the lino tiles have to lifted up prior to laying the new flooring or could I replace the broken lino tiles and lay new flooring over this. I am trying to avoid screeding due to the drying time as hallway is the only exit. If screeding is the way to go what would be an estimated drying time. Thanks very much.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would suggest removing all loose bits of tile and give the place a good clean and then get some self levelling compound and fill in any low areas where the tiles have come away. It goes off really quick and should beam only small areas will be affected so you can step over them.

First you need someone to test the tiles down don't have traces of asbestos which they very well might, you will also need to do moisture testing by a professional to determine the correct products to use, and finally once the tiles are uplifted all adhesive must be mechanically removed with either shotblasting or a scarifyer first.

In my opinion is remove all tiles, then make a screed and put down new floor or if you don’t won’t make a screed we can remove damages tiles and fix missing bits (use rapid) then fit flooring
