Painting furniture

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

i was considering painting my wardrobes as the colour is a little outdated for my liking. They're perfectly functional so don't want to replace them. I don't want to start painting it only for it to look horrendous with brush strokes and streaks and wishing I hadn't bothered wasting time, effort and money. Can any 1 give me some advice or any tips?

Preparation is key...in a project like this. Make sure the wardrobe surfaces are thoroughly clean...sugar soap is good.....rinse off and allow to dry... I would suggest a satin finish...applied with a good quality brush...and if you are confident, a mini roller is a great tool, use a velour sleeve , wash and dry the roller sleeve before use,..to get rid of any bits on it. Another tip would be to slightly thin the paint (not too much) ..this will ease the flow...and keep the "edge" open longer.

For a finer finish on your wardrobes and to leave no brush marks, I would highly recommend to get them sprayed. I have been spraying for over 10 years now and have sprayed numerous amounts of wardrobes in homes for people, fitted and non fitted. The finish is far more superior than brush painting, you can have whatever colour you like and any finish you'd prefer, e.g gloss, matt, semi-gloss etc. Spraying is just a different way of decorating and you can often find it being nicer finishes than the use of a paint brush and at the same reasonable prices. If you would like a quote, or further assistance then please do not hesitate to contact me. Brian, IBK Spraying.

Hi I have done numerous kitchens and furniture including built in and freestanding wardrobes with the use of top quality paints which are designed for these purposes as above says preparation is the key to finish and quality tools but also as above said you won't and can't beat a spray finish for the overall look and resilience so if I was you I'd go that route good luck ion your project

Spraying is the best finish ,but if you would like to have a go then its all about preparation and using the right product 1 wash, wipe and clean with sugar soap or detergent, lightly sand sown to provide a good key for the paint 2 apply crown "grip extreme " its a water based primer undercoat and grips to the surface giving a goof key for your top coat either satin or eggshell but do avoid water based satin as its not durable enough
