How long until i can tile damp proofed walls?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

We are in a bit of a pickle... we ripped out our whole bathroom to put in a new one but found damp in the walls. we have been told in the quote forn damp proofing: "The redecorating of newly plastered walls should be deferred for a further period of at least 12 months for the continued drying process although a water based emulsion, suitable for new plaster work, may be applied during the interim period if desired." Does this mean we cannot tile for 12 months?? Seems extreme to me!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Answer to the above question is dependent on what damp proof system you use. The best advice to give to this question is to call the company who supply the damp proof system for a time.

To tile a damp proof wall first of all you need to know about the product what was used to damp proof the wall. Are multiple methods and products to damp proofing a wall. Some of the options are: -damp proof membranes -damp proof paint -cementitious tanking -liquid epoxy damp proof membranes -anti-mould paint -renovating plaster So depend of this methods when you can tile the wall. Who will make the damp proofing will tell you when you can tile the wall.
