Hi,
Had a carpenter to replace 2 fire doors and 3 normal internal doors in my flat. All 5 doors are in our 3.5m hallway as you walk in. The handles are different heights. Toilet door and cupboard door (opposite) handles are as much as 2" difference. Thats brand new £120 doors install in to existing frame ( I did ask if frames need to be replaced ). And toilet door handle fell off, I found out is was glued to the door. There are ton of other small snags but I wont go into them.
Everything was supplied by me. So what are my options?
Thanks in advance
P.S. I haven't paid yet and asked him to correct all the things I wasn't happy about. Will check the results this evening.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hello, standard handle height in the UK is around 1m height for a door handle. the only reason i can think he has done them at different heights is to match the old keep in the frame. as for the glued handle??? have you paid this guy?
As dmitri_86 has stated handle height is around 1m (usually anywhere between 90cm to 100cm). However it does sound like he has fitted the handles to suit the existing door latch plates which would be common practice otherwise you will have gaping holes in the linings.
I take it the old doors had different handle heights as well?
Baffled as to why he would glue a handle on unless he hung a hollow door the wrong way round so there was nothing to screw the lock to so he fudged it by gluing. Certainly not a professional job if that was the case.

The building regulation states that are between 900-1050 from the floor . As for why he glued the handle I think he did the hole for the handle where the hinges should be. Usually on the doors from B&Q, Selco, Wicks, etc inside the doors on the side where you have to fix the lock they fix a piece of pine or chipboard (hight 300 x120 wide ) to be able to fix the lock and the handle. Probably he used the wrong side of the door and he couldn't screw the lock and handle . When I fix a handle I leave 1000 mm from the floor . Sorry you had a bad experience.
